Microporous Zeolite Catalysts. Microporous zeolites are a kind of ordered porous materials with pore sizes of 0.3-3.0 nm at present, which are widely applied in petroleum refining and catalytic industries. Our research is mainly focused on the design and preparation of microporous zeolite catalysts according to the requirement of catalytic reactions such as nanosized zeolite spheres formed by the template of polymers, microporous zeolites with a large surface area.

Ordered Mesoporous Materials. Ordered mesoporous materials are a kind of ordered porous materials with pore size of 2.0-50 nm, which are potentially versatile catalysts and catalyst supports for catalytic conversion of large molecules. However, as compared with conventional zeolites, these mesostructured materials have relatively low acidity and hydrothermal stability, which severely hinders their practical applications in catalytic reactions for petroleum industry. Our research is devoted to prepare hydrothermally stable, strongly acidic, and catalytically active ordered mesoporous materials from preformed zeolite nanocluster precursors or high-temperature synthesis using a new kind of fluorocarbon surfactants. Enclosed are TEM images of ordered mesoporous silica designated as JLU-21 (Jilin University No. 21).

Novel Photocatalysts. There is a great interest for synthesis of mesoporous zeolites with fast mass transfer. Recently, We demonstrate here a unique, facile, controllable, and universal route for the synthesis of hierarchical mesoporous zeolites templated from a mixture of small organic ammonium and cationic polymer. Notably, this route is ˇ°one-stepˇ± hydrothermal synthesis, and the templated mixture is homogeneously dispersed into synthetic gel. Obviously, the synthesis of hierarchical mesoporous zeolites is easily controlled. More importantly, these novel zeolites exhibit excellently catalytic properties, compared with conventional zeolites. This work may open a door for synthesis of hierarchical mesoporous zeolites with fast mass transport, potentially applied in industrial catalysis. Figure 2 clearly show the hierarchical mesoporosity in the range of 5-40 nm exists in a crystal of Beta zeolite.

Preparation of Novel Catalysts and In-situ Characterization of Catalytic Reactions. Our research is to (1) characterize the structure and mechanism of catalytic materials and reactions by in-situ UV-Raman and Infrared spectroscopy as well as X-ray diffraction technique, (2) study the oxidations over novel catalysts with hydrogen peroxide and molecular oxygen as oxidants, (3) prepare novel chiral catalysts by combination of organometallic active sites with inorganic supports.
